Here it is! 2026! I hope you had a glorious Christmas and New Year and are now just about recovering and ready to start afresh? 2026 is going to be the big one, I can feel it! More details below of what’s coming up…
2025 Recap!
But first….a recap! Because as I often say on my tours, we can’t move forward if we don’t learn the lessons of history and herstory!
2025 was the fourth official year of Herstorical Tours’ existence and it was definitely the best one yet. My regular tours continued to go from strength to strength this year, consistently selling out. But I also launched a brand new tour this year (as is tradition) - Magic Mystics and Martyrs, which was a hit at Halloween.
I did a record 13 private tours, two customised events for the Chelsea Physic Garden (Bloomin’ Women and Hex and the Garden); two events for the Bow Street Museum to celebrate their Suffragette Live! season in April; a talk and performance at Dr Johnson’s House on his naughtier side (!); witchy talks at the Last Tuesday Society and the Amersham Paracon; and I teamed up with the Foundling Museum and the Totally Thames Festival to run my walks as part of their programmes. All in all, a jam-packed and incredibly fun year!

2026So what glories will the new year hold? Well, expect more of the fun of 2025, and hopefully lots of new and unexpected collaborations and projects! 2026 - The beginning of the end of the Patriarchy?
January is often a reflective month for many where we make (and break) New Year’s Resolutions and think about what we want to achieve in the new year, and what we want to leave behind in the old one. I recently read a very interesting post about how we are currently witnessing the extinction of the Patriarchy. In behavioural psychology, when a certain behaviour pattern in a person or animal stops being rewarded, it intensifies its behaviour dramatically in an attempt to cling onto what it knew in the past and receive the reward it used to get. The argument goes that we are seeing this with the Patriarchy.
After thousands of years of domination and control reinforced through laws, religion, militarism, economics and educational indoctrination, we are now living at a time where women’s power is undeniable and the systems that used to prop up the patriarchy are crumbling before our eyes.
As a result, the system revolts. There’s a backlash - abortion bans, the rise of incel culture, the success of far right populist ideas around the world. But here’s the catch: the bigger the backlash - the closer we are to its complete collapse. Because you don’t evangelize about something that’s ‘normal’ - you promote what isn’t selling anymore.
So I think the key takeaway here is not to feel despondent about the state of the world and the perceived ‘reversion’ to the past and outdated ideas and themes, but to feel excited and hopeful - because the louder the anti-feminists are - the more we are winning! This is all part of the extinction burst. And of course, it’s not just about gender equality, it’s about everything - racial, national, class identity, etc. Let’s just keep on keeping on.
