Welcome to May, hope you all had a nice bank holiday, if celebrating. Lots to be excited about - warmer days (hopefully) and the start of summer officially in the Celtic calendar at least! Herstorical Tours is now gearing up for the summer season, but first….a recap of April…
April re-cap
What a cracker of a month! We got through no less than FIVE private tours this month for a mix of amazing and inspiring corporate clients, birthday and hen parties. That’s a personal record for Herstorical Tours! I’m so grateful and buzzing from these events.
We also ran, of course, our public tours, welcoming lots of new people to the Herstorical fold. Harlots and Strumpets was a sell out this month!

Summer is a Coming In!
This month was catapulted to a fantastic, joyful and inspiring start with my bespoke Beltane event for The Chelsea Physic Garden on 1st May. Summer is a coming in! combined a storytelling tour of the garden’s plant folklore with character performances heralding the arrival of summer, a guided ritual and a sing (and dance)-a-long! The Goddesses and Fae folk were definitely on our side - we were blessed with stunning sunshine in the equally stunning environs of the magical Chelsea Physic Garden. I adore creating events for this space and am ever grateful to the beautiful people that came along to this event. Photos above. I will be returning to the Garden in October for my yearly Samhain witchy special: Hex in the Garden. More on that soon!
This weekend is busy with private tours, but public tours start up again the following weekend - starting with Hex and the City on the 16th: our regular witchy theatrical walk; Southwark Hysteries the following Friday on the 22nd, Votes for Women! on the 24th and Harlots on the 30th. All are available to book now. As ever, many of these tours tend to get sold out pretty quickly so reserve your spot ASAP.

Are you an influencer or history/feminist content creator?

Just a reminder that I am running a FREE tour for content creators on 27th May. In exchange for a complimentary tour, I just ask that you make amazing content about my tours and post online to promote them! I am looking for influencers with significant followings so that I can broaden my reach and make Herstorical Tours better known to more people. If you’re interested, please CONTACT ME and I’ll send you details.
Further Summer Tours
Usually I advertise tours a month ahead, but as so many have asked me about tours further into the summer I have decided to advertise dates for June, July and August now. Hex and the City and Jailbirds of Old London is currently bookable ahead (see my website) and other tours will be added in the next couple of weeks. I hope this gives people more time to plan!
Jail Birds of Old London - the Lady Killers of London!
I launched Jail Birds a few years ago and then put it on hiatus for a while, but now she’s BACK! being trialled for one night only (!) on 18th June with the possibility of extending if she proves popular!
Jailbirds is an in-depth exploration of true crime cases in 19th and early 20th Century London as committed by women. We explore the gender-bias in the criminal justice system at that time, how it impacted 4 real life criminal cases and how much has changed today. How much sexism and misogyny still impacts women in the justice system, both as perpetrators, and as victims.
If you’re into your true crime, you’ll be fascinated by this, and probably horrified. The cases are grim and not for the faint-hearted. As always, they are brought to life with theatrical vignettes. From the City to the West End, prepare to have your dark tourist cravings thoroughly satiated! Book here.

Available for Private Bookings!
We still have slots left for private bookings this month and into the summer months. So if you’re thinking of trying us out for your private party or corporate event, please don’t hesitate to reach out! My private tours info pack is available on this page to download if you want to read a little bit more about private events or just contact me! Here’s some testimonials from April’s private bookings:
That’s about it for this newsletter, I will update my social platforms as and when new dates are added to the website, so keep an eye out for those. But now, I’m off to research and write two new tours (I know, I’m a glutton for punishment!) Have a wonderful month of May, stay happy, healthy and safe, and f*** the patriarchy.
In solidarity and with much Herstorical love as always,
Maria
