🎄Deck the Halls with Herstorical Tours fa la la la la!! 🎶

‘Tis the season to be merry, they say! And why not celebrate December and the festive season with a bit of Herstorical love?? This month we’ve got our crowd pleasing stocking fillers Harlots and Strumpets and Tarts Oh My! (Festive Special)

on 19th December and on the 21st it would be rude not to mark the Winter Solstice  with Hex and the City, right?

Harlots is a raucous romp through Covent Garden’s sordid sex (and crime) 18th Century history, led by the Baroness Stocking-Filler herself.  The tour blends comedy and entertainment with the pathos and seriousness the subject (and women involved) deserve. We end outside the Nell Gwynne pub, where you can get a well-deserved cosy drink!

Hex and the City explores London’s legacy of witch persecution but this one is a solstice special, so there may be some extra festive additions to mark the shortest day of the year. Expect entertainment, ritual and history on this walk. This tour sells out most months, so don’t miss it!

Well behaved women seldom make history…

…Nor do they make Herstory frankly! This quote sits proudly on my website as a reminder of the countless heroic achievements of women throughout time. Women who have defied the norms and ‘rules’ of patriarchal society and as a result, have changed the world. The suffragettes and suffragists are a stark example of this: women who sacrificed everything: their families, their reputations, their health, their lives - to achieve the vote and be recognised as citizens in their own right, alongside men.

On 7th December I will be running my final Votes for Women! Suffragettes at Bow Street and Beyond tour for 2025. We retrace the footsteps of some of these remarkable women on their journey to achieving women the vote. The tour will take you through central London from the seat of our government to the West End. We explore the triumphs and the tragedies, the courage and the criticisms. The tour ends at the Bow Street Museum of Crime and Justice and your ticket includes free entry into the museum. The end of year Oscar’s Speech…🏆

That’s it for this month. It seems like not a huge amount is on in terms of public events but as usual I have lots of private tours, so I’m being kept busy with that! Please, as always, get in touch if you are thinking of or even curious about a private tour. I’d love to discuss it with you.

Thank you to everyone who has subscribed and followed me online, or come to a tour or event or multiple tours or events this year. It’s been an AMAZING year and Herstorical Tours only goes from strength to strength each year, with more and more tours and events added to the itinerary.  

Thank you also to my incredible co-stars Melissa and Kim (pictured below) who have helped me over the past few years - couldn’t do it without these gals! Thank you also to friends and colleagues who have offered support or opinions, given their time to help me film promo material, and stepped in last minute -  you know who you are!!

I will be sending out a Herstory for December mid-month, and be back with a newsletter in January. Tours pause for January usually, and then will properly re-commence in February for the season of lurrrrve ;-) I will however post regular updates on social media so please follow my channels* for those.

*(Oh and by the way, some of you may have noticed I’ve left TikTok, I think my profile is still up there but should be deleted soon. I found it overwhelmingly distracting and the net benefits weren’t outweighing the costs to my mental health and time. Sorry, but I’m still on Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky! )
