How’s your summer so far? I’m not going to lie, it’s been hard. I don’t have to tell anyone how hot it’s been. It’s affecting everyone and every business I know, not least my tours. The fires are raging, yes, it’s all a bit scary, yes. AI is encroaching upon us insidiously making it all the worse, yes.

But it makes me think; if everything burned down - if we had no more internet because it’s just too hot and all the machines over-heated ( which is what’s happening- at least to my tech!) How would we entertain ourselves? If we imagined the world with no modern technology, we’d go back to simpler times. Books (assuming they’ve not all burned too!) making art, and connecting with others. In times of crisis , only the simple things in life matter.

The oldest form of community entertainment known to (wo)man was sitting around a campfire, sharing stories, song and dance. Storytelling is how we connect, it’s what makes us human. AI can’t replicate the spontaneity of it, and never will because it comes from the human soul.

So despite the heat, I’m carrying on (!) this summer. The stories need to be told, and someone needs to tell them. And, just to make us all feel a bit better I’m offering

July was kinda 🔥 but in a GOOD way!

Why? Well weirdly July actually turned out better than I expected. I ran private walks for Netflix, the WI, Claremont High School and a private book group. I was also running my public tours as usual, and they were decently attended, given the heatwaves.

I also did a super fun talk for Pints of Knowledge on the sex trade which was great, and they loved it so much I’ve been invited back in September to talk about witches ! whoop! Highlights:

Autumn isn’t that far away…hang in there folks!

I know it can’t come soon enough for some of us, but it really isn’t that long now- honest! Soon we’ll all be complaining about the cold and rain again. As usual, autumn is when things start ramping up for me and this year is no exception. Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come - some are bookable now so get in there before everyone else does!

Totally Thames - September

I’m bringing Southwark Hysteries back to the Totally Thames festival this year. The Festival is a month long arts celebration along the river in Southwark and the South Bank - and the programme is really worth looking at. There are workshops, talks, performances. My saucy, comedic and irreverent Herstorical tour is perfectly suited for those looking for a bit of alternative culture (!) Talks and special events - September-November

As mentioned I’m going to be talking about the witch trials for Pints of Knowledge in September. This will be a condensed 40 minutes look at the witch trials in England and what they mean for us today, in a pub in South London. Details TBC on the website soon!

In October and November, there are some exciting things coming. I’m working on not one, not two, but THREE special projects with, in order: The Foundling Museum, Hogarth House and the London Archives. These one night only special events will be a mix of talks and performances on themes of women’s history. More details to come as soon as they’re up and selling tickets, but watch this space!

And for the third year running, I’ll be bringing my sell-out Hex in the Garden performance and talk back to the Chelsea Physic Garden on 3rd October. Tickets are already up for sale here but I’ll be revealing more in September. This event has very limited spaces and tends to book up quickly, though, plus it’s part of the Chelsea History Festival this year - which is why I’m alerting you now - don’t miss out!

Halloweeeeeeeen!!!!! Witches, Mystics, Criminals and Ghouls…

Lest we forget….sacred spooky Samhain is soon upon us! I’m doing something slightly unusual this year and advertising my Halloween tours this month - since I’ve had so many people asking me when they’re going to be available. I shall alert everyone via social media channels when the dates are up, so just keep checking back there if you’re eager!

And fun news, this year I’m not only going to be running my usual Hex and the City and Magic Mystics and Martyrs tours, - I’ll also be running Jail Birds of Old London as a one off spooky special AND launching a BRAND NEW tour for the spooky season…

…Phantom Femmes!

Phantom Femmes is a non-theatrical ghost tour of the city focussing on the women in London’s hauntings. But just because there aren’t costumes or theatrical interludes - don’t think this is going to be a standard walk and talk! This tour has interactive elements: you will be able to do some actual ghost hunting yourselves AND we will have exclusive access to a haunted place usually not accessible to tourists.
